Rich, elegant, with layers of complex flavors and velvety texture.

Egly has earned a soft spot in the hearts of many Champagne groupies. Based in the village of Ambonnay, this small estate claims approximately eight hectares of ALL Grand Cru vineyards, mostly in Ambonnay, but also in Bouzy and Verzenay.

Francis Egly is one of the most conscientious, skilled vignerons in the entire region, and his vinous, terroir-expressive Champagnes are unique and incredible.

The vines average 30-50 years in age and are planted to 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. In order to preserve the integrity of the base wines as much as possible, all wines are unfiltered - a somewhat unusual practice in Champagne. The date of disgorgement can always be found on the back label.

This masterful Champagne proves that, if the fruit is perfectly ripe, and the wine is given ample contact with its lees, a dosage is virtually unnecessary.

“VP” stands for “vieillesement prolongé,” or prolonged aging – a reference to the 5 years this wine spends on its yeasts, gaining unparalleled texture, depth and complexity. “VP” is based on a blend of the outstanding 2006 and 2008 vintage with reserve wines dating back to 1999. This is the finest Champagne Egly makes.

The Champagne is produced from vines in the best three villages of the Montagne de Reims (a base of Ambonnay, with smaller amounts of Bouzy and Verzenay), and is fermented 50% in barrel. Disgorged July 2016.

Mareuil-Sur-Ay. RM (recoltant-namipulant).
