Region: South Africa> Western Cape> Costal Region> Constantia
Notes: 12 months in French and American Oak. Sustainably farmed.
Description: The oldest wine farm in South Africa, going back 330 years. Their history and success has a timeline of who’s, who. IN 1833 King Louis Philippe of France ordered a large supply of wine from Groot Constantia. Napoleon Bonaparte favored the wines during his exile in 1815 - 1821.
We choose the older vintage from one of our U.S. Importers because it is drinking so well. When Shiraz is well-made, they can age 10 or more years and start to produce complex characteristics that can only come from maturation. Groot Constantia is a great Shiraz. Soft ruby center as it starts to fade at the rim. Aromas are expressive of a mature wine, revealing umani, black olives, currants, and bacon fat. On the palate the wines tannin, fruit, alcohol, and acid have bonded together producing a well-balanced and refined wine.
Not to be missed. Please note this wine has 14 years of age and the corks are very delicate. Be delicate when opening, we suggest a wine extractor. Light decanting is suggested, however the wine holds up well after opening for at least 2 days.
