American Whiskey: A distilled product made from a mash of cereal grain which should be no more than 80% alcohol by volume. This means any grain can be used but Corn, Rye, Wheat, and Barley are usually the dominant grains. A “Straight” American Whiskey must be aged in barrel for at least two years with not more than 62.5% alcohol at the start of barrel process. It can not be blended with any other spirit, coloring, or additive. “Blended Whiskey” can be a mixture of straight whiskey, a blend of straight whiskeys or in combination.
